Little Spines

Little Spines is a creative writing anthology of students from RMIT. The imagery I’ve used is imitating karyotyping, imaging chromosomes. Chromosomes are different for every individual yet are the same basic set - Little Spines is similarly about individual works coming together to make a complete set of creative writing.

The imagery used in this design is based on imagery produced by karyotyping. Karyotyping is a laboratory test used to study an individual’s chromosome make-up using stains to highlight the chromosomes. Together these works speak of human tales and the fragility of existence. What better characterises humanity than our own DNA? Ideally, each story would have a different chromosome - a set of 23 stories represented by the 23 chromosomes. With the preliminary pages using repeated chromosomes but different imagery.
